Hung Systems
When an application on a remote system starts consuming almost all the CPU processing, remote desktop tools grind to a virtual halt. This leaves administrators blind to the activity on the remote machine and many times unable to remotely reboot.
Current hardware-based remote reboot solutions are expensive and only designed for servers. Mass deployment across the enterprise is out of the question due to the cost.

Busy Systems
System administrators tend to leave remote control sessions connected to their desktop to speed administrative tasks. They sometimes regret that habit as they move from away from their desks and become aware of a problem on a remote system.

Start and Stop Services
Whether the system appears to be hung or whether an administrator needs to remotely terminate an existing remote control session, Ignition from Sage Alliances provides a tool to quickly halt troublesome services and painlessly restart them.

System Reboot
When there is no other hope than a complete reboot, Ignition can either gently reboot the system or force the reboot. A gentle reboot is for systems operating normally or as a first reboot attempt, sending the "close window" message to each open window. Should the system not respond, Ignition can try and force the reboot without sending the polite close window signal.

Technology
Ignition is designed to work when other tools fail. Its secret is its low CPU utilization. . Systems that appear to be hung are many times just fully utilized running a single application or service. This leaves little CPU time remaining for larger applications such as remote control. On systems where even the mouse pointer will not move, Ignition can many times stop and restart the failing service without reboot.
